Ingredients

  • 3/4 cups butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla until thoroughly mixed, then add the dry ingredients. Form dough into ball, cover, and place in refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight.

Preheat over to 400F. Roll dough on floured surface with floured rolling pin (or between two pieces of floured wax paper) to about 1/4" thickness. Cut into shapes and place onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 6-8 minutes.

Numerous recipes for "sugar cookie butter icing" can be obtained online, or you can buy a tub of premade vanilla icing at the grocery store and thin it down with a little milk. Icing should be slightly runnier than you'd want for a cake, but thick enough so as not to run off the cookie. Color red icing with lots of food coloring. Black icing can be made using Wilton colors. Let base color of icing harden slightly at room temperature before decorating with Skulls.
