FEB-MAY 2010 NEWS

Yeah, you've already read Banchou's releases a while back, but this is the "official" version you need to place on your e-bookshelf. Go get it!

The Forum is back, but with a caveat. It has been fully disenfected and upgraded to the latest version. However, it looks like Godaddy have yet to take care of business. Another round of PHP based websites were hit just a few days ago, so tread carefully. Thankfully, only the forums were affected here. I have my stuborness to thank for that. Had I abandoned my archaic html ideals for these fancy new do-it-yourself Wordpress templates or the like, it probably would have taken me years to get up and running again.

At first I was pretty sour about the whole ordeal, as I stated earlier, and wanted to switch hosts because of it. Now that I've had time cool off, it's my opinion that none of them are really all that great. All of these "retail" hosts and virtual servers are just as unreliable as the next. If this were my business or an otherwise "life essential" venture, I wouldn't be wasting my time with any of these guys, I'd have my own server. For all intensive purposes the overall convienience of the current situation cancels out the occasional shortcoming. Also, the price is right.

The interweb is a dirty place. You play in it and you'll eventually get burned. There's no such thing as a "trusted website". Even the mighty Google has been hacked. Unless you're on a Mac or running Linux, you'll just have to rely on your good judgement. Remember, always kill popups in Task Manager. Never click "No" or even the little X in the top right corner. That won't always save you, but it would have in this case. I hope no one got hit before I was able to catch it.

Honestly, I'd say that was the last of it, but if you're paranoid (like me), I'd give it a few more days until visiting the forums just to be on the safe side. For the brave of heart, or those non-Windows folks, the forum is up, you just need to insert an "11" in front of "forum" in your address bar or click here. Thanks for stickin' it out.

Chapter 49.2: DDL

It appears as though the security breach was no fault on my end. Apparently the hosting service I chose has had multiple widescale attacks over the past few weeks. You can read about it here.

I decided to take this opportunity to change hosts. I had always wanted to upgrade, but never really had much reason to before this. To make a long story short, after a week of bullshit, I've decided to stick it out here for the time being.

That being said, I'll need a few more days to clean up and get things running again. We may end up losing a few forum posts, but better to err on the side of caution. I'll have the next Crows chapter waiting for ya'll as well.

Haxed! Just wanted everyone to know I'm well aware of the situation and have been working on resolving it. In the meantime, I took the forum offline. Hopefully no one's machine was compromised before I was able to do so. It looks like the attack was issolated strictly to the forum index. If that turns out to be the case, it shouldn't take long to get it all cleaned up.
